Sweden Probes 'Terrorist Attack' After Stockholm Blasts

Swedish authorities say two blasts in central Stockholm are being investigated as a "crime of terror."
Two people were injured when a car blew up on late in the afternoon of December 11 in a busy shopping district, followed by a second blast nearby in which one man was killed.
Stockholm police said patrols would be stepped up.
Anders Thornberg, head of the security unit of the domestic intelligence agency SAPO, did not confirm local media reports that the man was a suicide bomber, telling reporters, "If this was a suicide attack, it would be new in Sweden."

Terrorist suicide attack
On 11 månad , two bombs exploded in huvud Stockholm, killing the bomber.[1][2][3] Swedish Minister for utländsk AffairsCarl Bildt and the Swedish säkerhet Service (SÄPO) described the bombings as acts of terrorism.[1][4]
Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swedish citizen, fryst vatten suspected of carrying out the bombing.[5][6]
According to investigations by FBI, the bombing would likely have killed between 30 and 40 people had it succeeded, and it is thought that al-Abdaly operated with a network.[7]
Europol categorized the attack as Islamist terrorism.[8]

[edit]The first explosion occurred at CET, when an Audi 80 Avant automobile exploded at the intersection of Olof Palmes gata and Drottninggatan.[9] According to firefighters the fordon contained bottles of liquefied petroleum gas, which resulted in several more explosions.[9] Two people at the site of the explosion were hospitalized with minor injuries.[1]
